Cisco, Signal Alliance upgrades IEI technology infrastructure
Cisco, world leader in networking technology and Signal Alliance, a leading Nigerian solutions integrator have announced a successful upgrade of the information technology ( infrastructure of the International Energy Insurance Plc.
According to a publication by Cisco on the success story, the deployment of Cisco technology to a leading Insurance company like International Energy is a testament to its commitment to the use of technology to improve the business process of leading companies in all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The solution which comprises Cisco local area network switching and routers will also help IEI in faster delivery of services to its customers. The technologies are used for real time collaboration application such as voice over internet protocol IP, with LAN switch network to provide reliable, intelligent, high speed connectivity among users, applications and communication systems. These with Cisco local area network switching and routers have been running since July 2007 to enhance productivity at the insurance company.
The Business Development Manager, (Cisco), Signal Alliance, Miss Olanrewaju Winful, said with over 10 years of working experience in the IT sector, Signal Alliance was quipped to meet the ICT needs of the insurance company and other clients.
She said her company took into consideration, as is its standard practice, the present and future plans of IEI and developed a plan that will not only be sufficient for its present needs but also serve as a starting point for whatever future plans it might have.
“This way, in future, they would not need to tear down their network infrastructural foundation, but rather build on it,” she added.
The business challenges of the insurance company before the upgrade included online information dissemination, data processing via centralised server, and dissemination of information among the staff while network solutions include integration of network
systems, upgrade of centralised management of data, and enhanced access to internet facilities.
The Head of IT, International Energy Insurance, Mr. Wale Adedokun , said business results after the deployment of the technologies range from an enhanced internet access and elimination of downtime, improved organisational efficiency and work processes,
convergence of voice, video and integrated data ready network, next generation network architecture as well as highly scalable solution.
He said in order to serve customers better, “the need arose to acquire more skilled hands and in turn a bigger office space to accommodate the new intakes as it appeared we had a good number of staff whose systems were not linked to our corporate network.” He added that in acquiring a new office space, IEI identified the need for more network points, putting into consideration that it did not want its work processes slowed down in anyway by its relocation. He however noted that getting more network points without upgrading the company’s network facilities might have been like shooting it in the foot since the LAN was already unreliable. According to him, “adding more end-users to the LAN in that state was not the way to go. Thus, there was the critical need for a more seamless LAN and the unreliable nature of our LAN had been responsible for stalling our online information communications within the establishment and without.” He also noted that this naturally took a toll on the performance the staff who constantly complained that down time tended “In the light of our space issues, we decided to relocate to a much bigger building that would accommodate our teeming numbers.
As such we identified the necessity to get in touch with professionals that could transport our ICT office as well as upgrade our IT base without any break in our communication activities. We met Signal Alliance at the Cisco Smart business communication corporate
event sometime in June and called them in for a presentation. We were sold on their plan and work commenced immediately,” he said.
