The Event Show 2016 focuses on improving participants’ skills - Spiff
This was the submission of Mrs. Izobe Spiff, Principal
Consultant, Tres Bien Events, organisers of the Port-Harcourt based show, while
speaking on Monday about the 2016 edition of the event billed to hold later
this month.
The Event Show, she explained, was born out of the need to
showcase the events industry as one that is viable and where players can do
things professionally and proficiently.
According to her, the show, which is in its 6th
edition, is a three-pronged event where people can learn, do business and have
fun, adding that the business training component was added to address
participants yearnings.
“In this year’s show,
we will have an educational session where seasoned professionals would come and
give business tips to participants. The idea is help address issues that some
participants said have posed a challenge to their desire to belong to the
events industry. People have complained about paucity of funding and absence of
skills as factors that militate against their desire for business entry,” Spiff
said.
The organizer revealed also that there would be a mentorship
raffle, which is an ingenious idea to train existing and young entrepreneurs
for free. According to her, all that is required is for individuals to attend
the educational seminars and then indicate their area of interest for training,
which include cake-baking, pastry, fashion, decoration, photography,
videography and events.
The free training, she noted, takes away the funding
challenge that young people often complain about and in some cases even lead to
employment of such trainees. In previous events, about 50 participants have
benefitted from the free training.
“The idea is show the young ones that when they leave school they
need not necessarily become a career applicants but can awaken their
entrepreneurial spirits to better their lot. If you do not get a job
immediately after graduation, you can key into the entrepreneurship
opportunities offered by the event industry,” she stated.
Spiff explained further that the events industry was being because
it is one that is easy to belong to as startup cost is minimal in comparison to
others industries.
Spiff added that a runway show component, which is a platform
for established and upcoming designers to showcase their designs, will feature
prominently at the event.
