Celtel Nigeria on Thursday announced the introduction of a new Mobile Access Code 0708.
The introduction of the new code, which will enable the network to connect and cater for another 10 million customers, adds to the company’s existing number access codes (0802 & 0808)
Celtel said the development was an indication of strong subscriber preference for its brand and services.
New access codes are allocated to operators by the telecommunications regulatory authority when they are on the verge of exhausting their current numbering plan or when they foresee large demand for their services in the future.
Mobile phone numbering codes with a seven digit suffix (0708xxxxxxx) offer 10 million lines to operators and these could be used for pre-paid and post-paid customer lines, special codes and emergency numbers.
Celtel said in a statement that the codes have been approved by NCC.
IT said, “This addition to our numbering plan has been approved by the industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission. The new access code provides Celtel a fresh platform to provide millions of Nigerians more opportunity to get connected to the GSM network.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Celtel, Mr. Bayo Ligali, the company has invested massively in network roll-out, including coverage and capacity expansion over the past one year in order to meet the ever increasing needs of our clients.
The Celtel CEO underlined the company’s commitment to the improvement of its Quality of Service, saying that “Celtel is rapidly deploying infrastructure aimed at enhancing the robustness of the network and boosting its capacity to take on increasing customer activities”.
He added that the company has also invested more funds in the expansion of its customer care infrastructure. The company’s Call Centres, he explained, are now fully equipped with the most modern facilities and manned by highly motivated professionals for improved efficiency in customer service delivery.
Ligali added, “We are more than ever ready to meet the needs of a rapidly increasing client base. Even when faced with daunting infrastructure challenges of our market, we are increasing our service quality and experiencing the fastest subscriber growth in our history”.
SIM cards of the new access code will be available in all Celtel sales channels including Celtel Shops, Strategic Distribution Partners, retailers, and Associate Distributors.
Users of 0708 will have access to same services as other users (0802 and 0808) including Voicemail, Call Me Back, Credit Me, Me2U airtime transfer, Celtel for life or dynamic validity, and conference call, among others.
The 0708 number series SIM cards will cost the same as the existing numbers, the 0802 or 0808 SIM cards.
