Omatek exits SMEEIS with Zenith and GT Banks, plans public offer

Omatek Computers Limited, a subsidiary of the Omatek Group has announced its exit from the small and medium enterprises synergy that it entered into with Zenith and GT Banks.
The Managing Director, Omatek Group, Mrs. Florence Seriki, informed our correspondent on Wednesday that the company entered into the SME venture with the two banks with a proviso for exit within a period of two to five years.
She said, “We are pleased to announce to the general public our exit from the SMEIS programme after a very successful collaboration with two of Nigeria’s big banks, Zenith Bank and GT Bank, which partnered with the company in achieving the remarkable feat of being Africa’s first completely knocked down factory.”

Seriki noted that the leadership of both banks had been very supportive over the years and promised to continue to collaborate with them in the nearest future.

She added that with the help of the banks Omatek had graduated from being small assembly firm to one that now buys computer components from the ‘big players as they are being called in Asia.’
She said a major challenge however of this growth was on how to sustain the minimum order quantity that is required of the company, given its new status as major manufacturer.
She said success in this regard was one important factor to ensure that products were delivered at competitive prices.
Meanwhile Omatek is set to hit the capital market any moment from now, Sriki has alo revealed. She said after twenty one years of setting the paceand gaining government recognition, the firm wants Nigerians to share in the firm’s success story.
Seriki said, ‘If we must maintain our leadership foothold in the industry, we must expand the horizon. If global standard which we have achieved over the years is to be maintained, If Africa must take it’s pride of place in the field of Information Technology, then we can not afford to remain small.’ she said.

She further said that in order for Omatek to continue to compete globally with other foreign brands, and source for raw materials from the best manufacturers.
She said, “We need to raise Equity. We were privileged to win the Microsoft 2005 award for best system builder West, East and Central Africa and have recently achieved the feat of opening a factory in Ghana with Distributing Channels now in other African countries.”

She said based on this, the firm was determined to position itself as a leader in the continent.
