ASECNA expands contract with Intelsat

Intelsat has signed a long-term, multimillion-dollar contract with Intelsat to expand its use of satellite capacity in support of its existing civil aviation network in Africa with the Agency for the Safety of Aerial Navigation in Africa and Madagascar.
ASECNA, the regional public establishment responsible for providing air navigation services in 17 African countries, would use additional capacity on Intelsat’s powerful 10-02 satellite to support communication systems. These enable airline navigation control, provide technical and traffic information, weather forecasting and guidance to airlines and airplanes in its member countries.
The additional capacity will be used for voice and data traffic and provides full coverage of the African continent and Europe, making it easier for ASECNA to expand its network within the Africa Indian Ocean Satellite Network and interconnect with other regional air safety navigation organisations.
“ASECNA’s communications network is responsible for the daily safety and well-being of literally millions of airline passengers and pilots. People’s safety and security are of critical importance to us, so it is necessary that the core of our network be built on the most stable, reliable and high quality capacity available to us. That is why we have been a continuing customer of Intelsat since 1994,” the Director General, ASECNA, Mr. Youssouf Mahamat, said.
The Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Intelsat, Mr. Steve Spengler, stated, “The IS-10-02 satellite provides ASECNA with high power, vast coverage and technologically advanced services that enable them to meet almost any communications need when coordinating the air traffic of member countries.
“This is a perfect example of Intelsat’s continuing commitment to providing African nations with access to premium satellite services that significantly enhance their quality of life and stimulate economic growth.”
