In an apparent show of acceptability of the network, over twenty thousand people turned out in Gboko, Benue State and Bomadi, Bayelsa State to welcome a team of offcials of Globacom on a nationwide coverage campaign entitled, “We Live Where You Live”
The firm said although Globacom it was yet to switch on its base station in Gboko, the ecstatic crowd was full of expectation and praises for the network. It said a spokesperson for residents in the city, Mr. Ior Vincent, “we are conversant with your services in neighbouring Katsina-Ala, Zaki-Biam and Vandekiya and we know the difference. We compare it with the epileptic service that we experience here with other networks. Sometimes, those networks are down for two weeks or more. We have seen that your network is ready, please could you switch it on,” they told the Glo team.”
In Bomadi, a riverine town in Bayelsa state, Globacom said the entire town trooped out to welcome the Glo team.
In Kokori town, the elders of the village pointed out that Glo had positively changed their lives. At 9th Mile in Enugu state, the subscribers said Glo has become “ebe ano”(this is the real deal) as most call centers use Glo.
Miss Florence Ogunna testified of the strength of the network. “At one point, I wanted to reach my parents at all cost. I tried the other networks and they failed. I wasn’t sure it was going to go, but as soon as I dialed the number, it went just in one dial. That is why we all use Glo here. You must have noticed that almost everybody wants you in their domain”, Ogunna said.
For the 106-year-old Obi of Umutu, who was represented by his retiree first son, Glo is the fastest growing network in Africa . “While the other networks took over a year to build their network here, Glo built theirs in less than three months. And before we knew it, we were calling our kith and kin outside this place”
In Oghara, the home town of Governor of Delta State , Chief James Ibori, the indigenes described Glo as the network of the people. The youth, the elderly and the children were all eager to be associated with Glo. Glo t-shirts and face-caps were a revered possession and those who got them showed it off. And in Sapele, the people encouraged Globacom to keep the flag flying. Chief Ogene, a resident of the city told the crowd of Sapele residents who came to witness the event that Globacom changed the Communication landscape.
Although the Globacom team arrived a bit late to Ogwashiuku, the people trouped out in their thousands. Shouts of Glo with Pride rented the air. Otukpo, Oju and Alaide were electrified as Glo entered the cities. In Oju, a spectator noted that he had never seen such a show in the history of that town. The police boss in the town who did not want to be quoted just said, “You Glo people know what you are doing. You are everywhere within so short a period. In this town, we have your service in the whole town. Your competitors are still thinking whether they will come or not. Your spread is electric.”
