MTS Pioneers 3G Soft Switch in Nigeria

National fixed wireless Operator, MTSFirst, has moved its network operations to a 3G Soft Switch platform, the first firm to do so in Nigeria
The firm explained at a media briefing in Lagos on Friday that the migration to the new platform built by Huawei Technologies is to help improve its ability to deliver service to its customers and help in its overall expansion plans.

According to MTS Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Abiodun Adeoye, the soft switch technology as an evolutionary transformation, has put MTS far ahead of competitors in the Private Telecommunications space.
Adeoye said based on the new platform, MTS could now boast of having the needed flexibility to deliver more applications such as fax, broadband data, VoIP, Video streaming and many many more.
‘What we have brought on the MTS network is a cutting-edge technology which is set to revolutionize existing traditional technology in the country giving it greater capacity for more voice and data’, he said.

He said that as part of the deployment of the new soft switch platform, all MTS Base Transceiver stations in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and Abeokuta had been swapped out from the older generation BTS to the new 3G Huawei BTS nodes capable of delivering bigger coverage and better stability.

Meanwhile the firm said it was now offering its customers per second billing Sales. According to its Marketing Officer, Ms. Uche Ofodile the firm was also commencing a promotional sales offer called Bumper Harvest,that would among many other things offer a new Kyocera SE47 Slider phone to subscribers who recharge with N5,000 and more at time.
She also said the firm had begun a free weekend on-net calls for all its subscribers in Abeokuta and Ibadan. Tagged ‘call till you drop’, the offer is an uninterrupted and unlimited free call for 24 hours of the day and everyday. ‘It’s our own little way of rewarding our loyal and exciting subscribers in the two cities’, Ofodile said.
