New Horizons inspires youths with IT scheme
New Horizons, the world’s leading information technology training institution, has highlighted the need for youths to have information technology skills to better their lives.
The company stated this in a statement made available on Monday, after a special information and entertainment programme for youths in Lagos.
The Managing Director, New Horizons, Mr. Tim Akano, told participants that the present century belonged to Nigerian youths, and urged them to strive hard to take their rightful place in the scheme of things in the world, thereby leading Nigeria gallantly into the future.
He noted that IT was central among skills that they should possess to become competitive in the present age.
He added that it was the duty of the youths to develop Nigeria and that foreigners could not do a better job than the citizens.
He identified the IT skills that participants should acquire in order to improve their chances of professional success to include Oracle and Microsoft certifications, E-Business, Sun Java and Comp Tia certifications.
Others include Information Security and CISCO certifications.
Popular radio presenter, Mr. Dan Foster, who was one of the speakers at the event, told the youths to be dedicated and focused towards achieving their dreams and ambitions.
He shared his personal experiences whilst growing up in the United States of America and his journey towards becoming a radio talk show host, and how IT had enabled him to increase his productivity as well as allow him to work across continents thereby earning more money.
He also informed the youths to have a positive self image of themselves and to aspire to be unique in all they would do, especially by acquiring IT certification based skills to increase their chances of success in the labour market.
At the end of his presentation, Foster gave out 500 scholarships from Oracle University, USA on behalf of New Horizons.
The company said it was using entertainment as a universal language of the youths, to communicate important and life transforming ideas that could impact positively on them and save them from the abyss of perpetual unemployment.
The event was attended by well over 5,000 people from across the country and had many entertainers including music maestro Abolore Adegbola Akande popularly known as 9ice and Dan Foster.
