VC commends Globacom at Calabar promo draw.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Bassey Asuquo, has praised National Telecoms Operator, Globacom, for being people-oriented.

Asuquo who was special guest at the Sports Arena of the University of Calabar, at the presentation of prizes to more winners of the Students' Edition of Globacom’s Jumbo promo, said that the network has brought succour to the poor.

The Vice Chancellor, reminded the large audience of students and family of winners that Globacom was responsible for the crashing of the cost of the SIM card and call tariffs. “Globacom has made the cost of telephony affordable to the common man” he said.

At the occasion, Globacom presented brand new Kia Picanto cars to two students; Mrs. Nwachi Uzoamaka of the National Teachers Institute, Abakaliki and Miss Patience Peters of the Marketing Department of the University of Calabar. Seventeen others received cash prizes.

The registrar of the University, Lady (Barrister) Margaret Uya and Prof. Nosa Omokharo who represented the Vice Chancellor, presented the cars to winners on behalf of Globacom.

The cash prizewinners were students of the University of Port Harcourt, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Ebonyi State University, Abia State University, Institute of Management and Technology and the University of Calabar.

The winners emerged at a draw conducted earlier in Lagos but the company decided to take the prizes to winners in their zones of the country.

The presentation ceremony at the University of Calabar was for students in higher institutions in the South South and South East Zone of the country.


Globacom had earlier made similar presentations at the University of Lagos, Kaduna State Polytechnic and Olabisi On banjo University, Ago Iwoye.

According to Mr. Wole Bankole who explained the process of arriving at winners said students qualified for the draw by sending a text to a particular number and recharging with N1000 before the date of the draw.

Globacom had dedicated 20 Kia Picanto cars, cash prizes worth N5 million, and twenty 5KVA generators to Nigerian students in the special students’ edition of the Jumbo Promo.
Globacom expanded the size of its 180 cars in 180 Days into the Jumbo Promo, adding more prizes to the earlier 180 cars offered, bringing the total prizes to be won by its subscribers to N505 million. In the expanded promo, subscribers are winning 180 cars, 180 5KVA generators, N36 million cash, and N190 million worth of airtime.
